OTHERS
I began this series a few years ago and returned to it during Covid. As the drawings multiplied, I pinned them all up on the wall, and they began to feel like Seers, Oracles, or Guardians watching over me.
I’m drawn to their strange, otherworldly quality; but there’s also a kind of tragic humour or quiet sadness in them, a sense of pathos. In their alienness, they somehow feel very human, and I’ve grown deeply fond of them.
Most are made from fire and smoke, using shellac and graphite.
