I’ve been a professional artist for over 30 years; making and selling art all over the world, I curate shows and teach workshops. Over time the nature of my work has changed from mostly drawing (I still draw) to that strange interface between art and science. I have found that rich and fertile is lays between the two. 

I am particularly drawn to physics: I call it the ‘Wonder’ science. Heaven knows why, I was useless at it in school. But time changes and I now really enjoy exploring its themes such as; energy, entropy, scale, time and matter. Physics covers the very structure of the universe, from the infinitesimally small, to the unimaginably huge. From particles to waves to fields it is literally AWESOME.

Among the favourite projects I’ve made are; a ‘Potato Powered Cosmos’ at CERN, an exhaust pipe ‘organ’ fed with air pollution data to create music, and a muon detector that delivers random prophecies. 

I aim is to share the wonder and enthusiasm I feel for this area and make it as engaging and accessible as possible. It doesn’t have to be all serious, it can also be joyful, fun, absurd and weird. 

I currently work between art, electronics and sound; teaching myself to use microcontrollers and program with Python to increase the skills and variety of workshops I can teach. Everything I make is a bit ‘Heath Robinson’ in approach as I am self-taught on the technology side, but I’ve learned that a bit of persistent trial and error (bodging) is not a bad thing!
