The Geiger Synthesizer

Or... making music from decaying stars.

Current work

My current, and ongoing, work is with sound and electronics – I’ve become besotted with it!

I’m teaching myself how to make analogue synthesizers and also using Arduino and raspberry Pi’s.

Geiger Synthesizer:

Progress so far
HOW IT WORKS

The synthesizer is attached to a Geiger counter, (bottom right) to a VCO, which is a Voltage Controlled Oscillator.

When radiation is registered by the Geiger counter, it triggers the VCO to make the noise which I’ve adapted to make sound like it’s travelling through space, a sort of doppler effect!

A Geiger Counter detects background radiation, this can come from natural sources like cosmic rays from space, some types of rock, or radon gas. It can also come from artificial sources like x-rays and nuclear power.

Light-Sensitive Synthesizer

Waving your hand across changes the sound.
I find electronic sound making magical.
That you can take a few simple components like resistors, transistors and capacitors and make music is amazing to me.
